Welcome to Echo Books. We are the first not-for-profit publisher for first time authors. Our commitment to you is simple. We offer you full control over your manuscript from beginning to end, no hidden charges, a quality final product with input into cover design and we give you 50% of all profits on your sales.
No Compromise On Your First Book
Publishing your pride and joy shouldn’t be so frustrating and confusing. There are so many options, yet with those options comes challenges. Hidden charges, standardised templates and low-budget cover art are just some of the many disappointments facing first-time authors.
We exist to help first time authors cut through all the noise and create a professional, high quality end product, a product that has the look and feel of something produced for a high-profile author by a major publisher.
If you choose Echo Books to publish your first work, we guarantee that you will hold complete control over your manuscript – we will never mandate that you change your pride and joy to suit our requirements.
We also guarantee that 50% of the profit on each book sold will go directly into your pocket. We issue annual statements, detailing what was sold, where and at what price. We detail our costs in fulfilling these orders and then we divide the profit remaining equally, 50/50.
We are the first not-for-profit publisher in existence specifically to help first time authors. We want to help you realise your dreams with our support and we want to make self-publishing as easy as possible for all those that choose to follow that path.
What You Get
Specification
In order to keep your costs as low as possible, we offer a standard specification to all our authors. This is what you get:
- Full manuscript and type setting (excludes editing and proofreading);
- Cover design: either original design or drawn from your own artwork;
- Book Size: 220x140mm;
- Stock: 260gsm cover (either gloss or matt finish, laminating optional), 80/100gsm pages (depending on final spine width).
Marketing
When you self-publish, you are responsible for marketing your book. However, we make this easier for you by offering:
- eBook conversion;
- ISBN number (enabling your book to be sold by all major retailers);
- Printing of your first editions (with 5 personal copies shipped to a UK mainland address);
- Placement of your book in the British Library;
- Registration on iTunes and Kindle;
- Placement of your book for sale on Amazon.
Royalties
We are committed to ensuring that our authors are not faced with any hidden charges or extra bills to pay. This means that our upfront costs can seem higher than others:
- 50% royalties on the profit of each book sold;
- Royalties paid by BACS on an annual basis (usually January);
- Sales statement to be included with each payment detailing what was sold, at what price, at what cost and what profit is left to split.

We ask each of our new authors to tell us more about them, what inspires them and to offer any advice they can share about writing a book for the first time.
